BarisanBerita.com,- Sama seperti kaum muslim lainnya di seluruh dunia yang terserang covid-19, Esa Alexander warga negara Afrika Selatan, tak bisa berdoa dekat jenazah ayah mertuanya, yang wafat di rumah sakit. Dia pun tak bisa ikut memandikan dan mengkafani almarhum.
“Kami memang bisa melihat jenazahnya, tapi sesudah almarhum dibungkus dengan plastik. Dan kami tak bisa menyentuhnya,” kata Esa, seorang juru foto.
Semua terjadi akibat tingginya resiko tertular virus mematikan covid-19, yang mewabah di permukiman kaum muslim di kota Cape Town. Dan itu membuat perlakuan terhadap jenazah secara Islam tak bisa dilakukan.
“Bahkan kami tak bisa mencium keningnya,” kata Esa, “Almarhum yang berusia 79 tahun wafat tanpa ada satupun anggota keluarga di sisinya.”
Sementara, Ebrihan Solomon, pengurus pemakaman mengatakan, jenazah harus dibungkus plastik sebanyak dua lapis.
Para sanak saudara almarhum juga harus memakai masker, sarung tangan dan baju perlindungan saat mengantar mendiang ke peristrahatan terakhirnya.
Namun, rata-rata anggota keluarga karena begitu sedihnya tak sanggup melihat proses pemakaman hingga selesai.
“Saya pernah mengurus jenazah seorang pria, yang sebelumnya sempat dirawat selama 8 minggu di rumah sakit. Dia saat hidup masuk ke ruang isolasi, dan hanya bisa menelpon atau video call dengan keluarganya. Tiba-tiba dia meninggal tanpa bisa dilihat langsung keluarganya,” kata Solomon.
Sementara, Farhan Richards, warga Cape Town, hadir dalam pemakaman kakeknya.
“Almarhum sama sekali tak dimandikan. Itu membuat kami sangat sedih dan berduka karena dalam ajaran Islam tubuh jenazah wajib dimandikan, namun itu tak bisa kami lakukan,” ujar Farhan wanita berusia 27 tahun.
Farhan menambahkan, dirinya sangat sedih karena saat jenazah dimakamkan, semua yang hadir harus memakai baju pelindung, seperti sama sekali tak menghormati almarhum. “Almarhum seolah tak mendapat penghormatan di akhir hidupnya,” ujarnya.
